The word Ayurveda comes from two Sanskrit words
Ayur = life Veda = science/wisdom/knowledge
Therefore the literal translation of ayurveda could be Science of life or wisdom/knowledge of life.
Meet the Mother of all Healing
Understanding what Ayurveda is can feel overwhelming for those who never came across it. In a nutshell – Ayurveda is a natural healing system that offers the tools to empower anyone to experience true long-term health and wellbeing.
Ayurveda is a powerful approach to self-healing because it views the human being as holistic, considering the relationship between mind, body, spirit and nature. Ayurveda is over 5000 years old traditional science designed to bring the body, mind, and spirit back into balance to heal itself from an ailment.
It has its roots in ancient India and is frequently referred to as “The Mother of All Healing” and is designed to be practised alongside Yoga as a complete natural and preventive healthcare system. Ayurveda is thought by many scholars to be the oldest healing system extant on our planet.
Ayurveda stems from the ancient Vedic culture
The Vedas are considered the oldest written recordings or books that describe, often in metaphors, ancient principles, practises and spirituality. The Vedas were taught in an oral tradition from accomplished masters to their disciples for many thousands of years.
The knowledge contained in Ayurveda deals with the nature, scope and purpose of life. It includes its metaphysical and physical aspects – health and disease, happiness and sorrow, pain and pleasure. The principles of many of the natural healing systems now familiar in the West have their roots in Ayurveda, including Homeopathy and Polarity Therapy.
